Carrie J., Book Coaching Client

Book coaching combines strategy, editorial judgment, accountability, and ongoing feedback — while you do the writing.

We help you define the book, build a workable structure, solve problems as they arise, and move steadily from the first chapter through the final draft, without losing your voice or your momentum.

Who we work with

Authors who want to do the writing themselves but need experienced guidance, honest feedback, and a clear process for completing the manuscript.

How we keep the book moving

  • Book strategy and positioning
  • Outline and chapter planning
  • Regular coaching sessions
  • Editorial feedback on new pages
  • Problem-solving and revision guidance
  • Deadlines, accountability, and momentum

What book coaching can do

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

Coaching turns a daunting project into a series of clear, achievable next steps.

How Coaching Works

A clear process from idea to finished manuscript.

Every author’s path is different, but the shape of the work is consistent: define the book, write with support and momentum, and revise until it works.

01

Define the Book

Before the writing begins, we establish what the book is, who it serves, and how it will be organized, so every chapter has a job to do.

  • Central argument and positioning
  • Audience and reader promise
  • Chapter map and outline
  • A realistic writing plan

02

Write with Momentum

Regular sessions and real deadlines keep pages arriving. When a chapter stalls, we find the problem and get you moving again.

  • Standing coaching sessions
  • Deadlines that fit your life
  • Accountability between sessions
  • Help unsticking stalled chapters

03

Feedback on Every Chapter

Each new chapter receives a close editorial read, so problems are caught early and the manuscript improves as it grows.

  • Chapter-by-chapter feedback
  • Structure and argument checks
  • Voice and clarity notes
  • Concrete revision guidance

04

Finish and Refine

When the draft is complete, we assess the whole manuscript and guide the revision that turns a finished draft into a finished book.

  • Full-manuscript assessment
  • Revision strategy and support
  • Editorial next-step recommendations
  • Publishing path discussion

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

Book coaching looks different for every author. These are the questions we hear most often at the start.

What does a book coach do?

A book coach helps you plan, write, and revise your own manuscript. We bring strategy, structure, editorial judgment, and accountability; you bring the ideas and do the writing. The result is a book that is genuinely yours, finished to a professional standard.

How is book coaching different from ghostwriting?

With ghostwriting, we do the writing based on interviews and research. With coaching, you do the writing and we guide the work: shaping the outline, reviewing chapters, solving problems, and keeping the project moving. Coaching keeps you in the author’s chair; ghostwriting asks far less of your time.

How is coaching different from editing?

Editing improves a manuscript that already exists. Coaching supports you while the manuscript is being written, so structural problems are corrected in real time instead of after the fact. Many authors combine the two: coaching through the draft, then a full edit of the finished manuscript.

How often do we meet?

Most authors meet with us on a standing schedule, typically every week or two, with editorial feedback and check-ins between sessions. We set a cadence that fits your writing pace and adjust it as the book develops.

How long does it take to write a book with a coach?

It depends on your pace and the book’s scope. Many authors complete a strong first draft within six to twelve months, then spend additional time on revision. A coach’s job is to make steady progress the norm rather than the exception.

How much does book coaching cost?

Coaching engagements are typically structured around session frequency and the depth of editorial feedback included. After an initial conversation about the book and your goals, we provide a detailed proposal covering scope, cadence, and fee.

Do I need an outline before we begin?

No. Defining the book is the first phase of coaching. If the concept itself is still taking shape, we may begin with the Book Blueprint, a focused strategy engagement that establishes what the book is, who it is for, and how it should be built.

What if I’ve already started writing?

Even better. We assess what exists, identify what is working, and build the plan from there. Arriving with chapters, even messy ones, gives us useful material to work with.

What happens if I fall behind?

Life happens, and deadlines flex. What matters is that the project keeps its momentum. We adjust the plan, find the obstacle, and get the writing moving again. That is a core part of the job.

What happens when the draft is finished?

We help you decide what the manuscript needs next: revision, a deeper edit, or a publishing strategy. Many coaching clients continue into editing or publishing guidance, but there is no obligation to.
