Wavey H., Published Author

We help you evaluate traditional, hybrid, and independent publishing routes, understand the tradeoffs, and choose a path that fits the book and your goals.

If you decide to self-publish, we coordinate the experienced editors, designers, and production specialists the book needs to reach publication at a professional standard.

Who we work with

Authors with a developing or completed manuscript who need an informed publishing strategy rather than a one-size-fits-all package.

How we guide the book

  • Traditional, hybrid, and independent publishing assessment
  • Book proposal and submission strategy
  • Agent and publisher research
  • Hybrid publisher evaluation
  • Editorial, design, and production coordination
  • Publication and launch planning

What publishing guidance can do

Publishing is a maze. We’ve walked it before.

A clear-eyed strategy saves months of wrong turns and thousands in wasted spending.

Paths to Publication

Three ways to bring a book into the world.

Each path trades control, cost, speed, and reach differently. The right choice depends on the book, your goals, and your timeline — not on anyone else’s formula.

01

Traditional Publishing

An established house acquires the book, typically through an agent, and funds its publication. The strongest path for prestige and bookstore reach — and the most selective.

  • Book proposal development
  • Agent research and submission strategy
  • Query and submission materials
  • Honest odds and timeline assessment

02

Hybrid Publishing

You invest in the publication and share the work with a publishing partner. Faster than traditional publishing, with professional standards — if the publisher is properly vetted.

  • Hybrid publisher evaluation and vetting
  • Cost and contract comparison
  • Quality and distribution assessment
  • Offer and agreement guidance

03

Independent Publishing

You own the project from manuscript to launch, keep control and royalties, and hire the professional team a good book requires. We coordinate that team.

  • Editorial, design, and production coordination
  • Print and ebook preparation
  • Metadata, pricing, and distribution setup
  • Launch planning and execution

Not sure which path fits your book? That is exactly what publishing guidance is for. Bring us the manuscript and your goals, and we’ll map the options honestly.

Questions & Answers

Frequently asked questions

Publishing decisions are easier with clear information. These are the questions authors ask us most.

Do I need an agent to be traditionally published?

For the major publishing houses, generally yes — they accept submissions almost exclusively through literary agents. Reaching an agent requires a strong book proposal and query strategy, which is where we begin. Some smaller and university presses accept direct submissions.

What goes into a book proposal?

A book proposal makes the business case for your book: the argument, the audience, your platform, competing titles, a chapter outline, and sample chapters. It is a sales document, not a summary, and its quality has an outsized effect on your odds.

Is my book a fit for traditional publishing?

It depends on the book’s category, its audience, and your platform. We give you an honest assessment early, because pursuing the wrong path costs months. If traditional publishing is a long shot, we say so and show you what the alternatives offer.

What is the difference between hybrid and self-publishing?

With a hybrid publisher, you pay a company to manage publication and share in the results; quality varies widely, so vetting matters. With independent publishing, you hire your own team and keep full ownership, control, and royalties. We help you compare real costs and outcomes for your book.

How do I avoid predatory publishers?

Warning signs include vague contracts, inflated service packages, guaranteed bestseller claims, and pressure to sign quickly. We evaluate offers, compare costs against market rates, and read the fine print before you commit.

Can you review a publishing offer I already have?

Yes. We evaluate the contract terms, costs, quality of the publisher’s previous books, and distribution claims, and give you a plain-language assessment of what you would be signing.

How long does publishing take?

After the manuscript is finished, independent and hybrid publication generally takes three to six months. Traditional publishing usually takes a year or more after a manuscript or proposal is acquired, plus the time required to secure an agent and a deal.

How much does publishing guidance cost?

It depends on the scope — evaluating paths and offers is a smaller engagement than coordinating a full independent publication. After an initial conversation, we provide a detailed proposal covering scope, timeline, and fee.

Do I keep the rights to my book?

It depends on the path. Traditional publishers license specific rights in exchange for the advance. Hybrid agreements vary, which is why we read them closely. With independent publishing, you keep everything. In every case, we make sure you understand what you are agreeing to.

Do you help with the book launch?

Yes. Launch planning is part of seeing the book through: publication timing, editions and pricing, distribution, early readers and reviews, and coordinating the specialists who handle the pieces we don’t.
